The Machine Shop Apprentice will engage in a variety of activities, which provide well-rounded exposure to the various functions of the Machine Shop.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understand principles of metal manufacturing
  • Learn to operate a variety of milling and turning machines
  • Shadow setup employees and quality inspector
  • Work with manufacturing engineers and tool engineers
  • Introduction to tool setting
  • Shadow supervisors on GEMBA walks and safety huddles
  • Participate in Kaizen and 6s events
  • Shadow maintenance technicians in relation to machine uptime and its criticality
  • Understand safety standards within manufacturing area
  • Other duties according to development path of the individual

Good to Have:

  • Ability to read simple blueprints
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Ability to perform shop math
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people
  • A willingness to learn and take on new challenges

  • Connect with mentors, employers, and industry professionals
  • Receive wrap around support from CLC’s Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator
