Development Intern – Individual Giving (12-Month Role)

Modality: Hybrid (M/F remote, T/W/TH in-person)

Duration: 12 months

Schedule: 20 hours per week (35-40 during school breaks)

Pay: $21/hour

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking interns to support our mission work to end hunger in Cook County. The Food Depository is a part of the Feeding America network, which is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. The Development IG Intern will play a key role in supporting the Individual Giving team to enhance donor relationships and communication. This role focuses on fundraising skills such as data entry, donor communications both digital and phone, planning and implementation.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Donor Data Management & Support

  • Learn and work with the organization’s database to assist in verifying donor information, maintain precise records, and attribute gifts to correct donors

Donor Program Support

Direct Response Program

  • Provide campaign project management
  • Review campaign creative
  • Maintain campaign/communication calendar

Monthly Giving Program

  • Perform gratitude call outreach to new monthly donors
  • Perform outreach to donors who have not yet given this year
  • Update communication touchpoints

Planned Giving Program

  • Review and edit campaign execution
  • Perform donor outreach to inspire others to join the Will to End Hunger legacy society
  • Asist in maintaining paperwork and files related to the legacy society

Donor Relations

  • Manage a small portfolio of donors
  • Conduct phone calls and write notes to thank donors for their support
  • Write and review copy for impact reports
  • Attend meetings with strategic giving officers and help with pre and post meeting activities

Administration/Coordination Support

  • Coordinate the process for invoice payments including creating purchase requests
  • Coordinate report requests based on direction from the Individual Giving Team
  • Manage and streamline Individual Giving folders and files

Other

  • Participate in additional responsibilities assigned throughout the program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must remain enrolled at City Colleges and in good academic standing (minimum GPA: 2.5) for the duration of the internship
  • Must have no less than 30 credits by the end of Spring 2025 with the goal to complete an Associate’s Degree by the end of the Spring 2026 semester
  • Be available to intern at least 20 hours per week during school for shifts no less than 4 hours each during operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:30a – 5:00pm, hybrid (M/F remote, Tu/W/Th in person); more than 20 hours of internship per week can be accommodated
  • Available to intern 35-40 hours per week during school breaks during same operating hours
  • Be committed to seeking full time employment in the fund development industry after the internship
  • Currently pursuing a degree in a related filed
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills (writing sample is a requirement of application) as well as good interpersonal skills
  • Have comfort with multi-tasking in a deadline-driven environment and be organized and detail oriented
  • Possess familiarity with social media trends and guidelines and basic digital literacy (Microsoft Office or equivalent)
  • Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking capabilities, willingness to learn new skills and ask questions, and enthusiasm and respect for our work and mission
  • Digitial photography and video editing experience a plus
  • Provide quality writing sample when applying

EXPOSURE:

  • The Individual Giving Intern will primarily work in an office setting within the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s headquarters, where they will have the opportunity to interact with Development professionals and other departments
  • This role offers the opportunity to develop administrative, project management and fundraising skills
  • The Intern may have the opportunity to support off-site fundraising and funder engagement events
  • The Intern may have the opportunity to support off-site community, partner and other engagement events.
