Pay: $21/hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Greater Chicago Food Depository is seeking interns to support our mission work to end hunger in Cook County. The Food Depository is a part of the Feeding America network, which is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. The Development IG Intern will play a key role in supporting the Individual Giving team to enhance donor relationships and communication. This role focuses on fundraising skills such as data entry, donor communications both digital and phone, planning and implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide efficient and effective first-level technical support: Resolve end-user issues promptly via phone, email, and in-person interactions, contributing to high levels of user satisfaction and minimizing downtime that impacts productivity. This directly supports the IT department’s goal of maintaining a highly responsive and reliable support service.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues: Diagnose and resolve software and hardware problems related to the employer provided laptops, and mobile devices, ensuring that end-users have the necessary tools to perform their jobs effectively. This contributes to the department’s objective of maximizing system uptime and user productivity.
- Assist with user onboarding and offboarding: Efficiently manage user accounts, including password resets and access permissions, to ensure smooth transitions for new employees and secure departures for departing employees. This aligns with the IT department’s aim of streamlining processes and maintain data security, as well as promoting a positive employee experience.
- Proactively identify and escalate issues: Recognize and escalate complex technical issues to senior IT staff, MSP, or vendor support to ensure timely resolution and minimize disruptions to critical business operations. This supports the department’s goal of providing tiered support and efficient problem escalation.
- Assist with cyber security risk reduction: Use industry leading solutions to review cyber security risks in our IT environment and to prioritize the risks to be addressed. Work with IT staff and end users to implement changes that reduce or eliminate specific risks.
- Manage an IT project: Take on a specific IT project that is a priority at the Food Depository. Become familiar with the IT project methodology and guide the project to achieve the intended business outcomes by following the IT project methodology. Work closely with IT leadership to review progress and maintain alignment.
- Empower end-users through knowledge sharing: Provide basic training and guidance to end-users on IT systems and applications, promoting self-sufficiency and reducing the need for future support requests. This aligns with the department’s objective of fostering a culture of technology proficiency and user empowerment.
- Maintain accurate IT inventory and documentation: Contribute to the upkeep of accurate records of hardware and software assets, supporting the department’s efforts in asset management, license compliance, and planning for future needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must remain enrolled at City Colleges and in good academic standing (minimum GPA: 2.5) for the duration of the internship
- Must have no less than 30 credits by the end of Spring 2025 with the goal to complete an Associate’s Degree by the end of the Spring 2026 semester
- Be available to intern at least 20 hours per week during school for shifts no less than 4 hours each during operating hours of Monday – Friday, 8:30a – 5:00pm, hybrid (M/F remote, Tu/W/Th in person); more than 20 hours of internship per week can be accommodated
- Available to intern 35-40 hours per week during school breaks during same operating hours
- Be committed to seeking full time employment in the fund development industry after the internship
- Currently pursuing a career in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related field.
- Possess strong understanding of computer hardware and software fundamentals as well as basic knowledge of networking concepts.
- Developing problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Developing efficient communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Bring eagerness to learn and a positive attitude.
- Bonus Points
- Working towards, or have achieved, CompTIA A+ or other relevant certifications
- Possess knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
- Experience with virtualization technologies
EXPOSURE:
- Primarily an office setting, with exposure to a warehouse and commercial kitchen environment
- Intern will be provided with training and support in combination from the organization’s staff and Managed Services Provider. Hands-on exposure to modern operating systems, hardware, and software. End-user support for various departments and scenarios.
